Scholarship Application

PART 1: GENERAL INFORMATION

 

Requirements, Eligibility, and Application Procedure

AMERICAN AIRLINES:

 

To be eligible for an NGPA Scholarship with American Airlines, an individual must: 

  • be enrolled in a 4-year U.S. accredited college or university
  • be seeking to develop professional aviation skills and ratings beyond their private pilot certificate;
  • be at least 18 years of age at the date of application
  • have earned at least a private and instrument pilot certificate
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA

Scholarship funds may be used to pay for:

  • advanced flight training (e.g., multi-engine, commercial, instructor, or ATP);
  • tuition and fees, within a flight education program at an accredited college,  university or flight school which cover the cost of advanced flight training.

Funds may not be applied towards a sport, recreational, private pilot or instrument certificate.

Checklist

  • Application. Be sure to fully complete the application form and submit it on/before August 1, 2017.

Please include all of the following attachments in PDF with your completed application:

  • Academic Transcript: a copy of your most recent transcripts (high school and/or college). A GED must be accompanied by previous high school transcripts, or subsequent college records.
  • Social Narrative (500 word essay): describe why you should be awarded an aviation scholarship from the sponsoring airlines.  Tell us about your achievements in and out of the classroom, your teamwork and leadership skills and your involvement in volunteer activities. Be sure to highlight your involvement in, and support of, the LGBT community and NGPA.
  • Career Narrative (500 word essay): describe the arc of your career and professional development to date, your future goals, and how an airline scholarship help you achieve those goals.
  • Two Letters of Recommendation: addressed to NGPA in support of your application for this scholarship. One coming from a faculty member or boss and another from a flight instructor/chief pilot or pilot whom you have flown with. (i.e., this recommendation should inform the selection committee about your qualifications for this scholarship). 
  • Copy of your Pilot Certificate
  • Copy of your Medical certificate
  • Copy of the last two pages of your pilot logbook: showing your total flight hours.
  • Copy of your pilot certificate written test scores: if available.

This scholarship is intended for individuals seeking advancement in professional aviation development towards a career as a professional airline pilot.  Funds will be used to advance flight training and will be paid directly to the institution or flight school.  Training must be completed within one year. The recipient will be chosen on a basis of merit, career aspirations, and dedication, as well as contributions to their community and service with NGPA.

Funds may not be applied towards a sport, recreational, private pilot or instrument certificate.

While applicants may apply for various scholarships, they may only be awarded one (1) NGPA scholarship per cycle. Please check the following box if this scholarship is your preferred award.
