Requirements, Eligibility, and Application Procedure
AMERICAN AIRLINES:
American Airlines will award two B737 Next Gen type rating certificates to qualified NGPA members.
The 19-day training program will be held at a facility in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Funds will be paid directly to the flight school, and training must be completed within one year from the date of award.
Minimum qualifications include the following: commercial, instrument, and multiengine certificates, a minimum of 1,500 total flight time, must have passed a FAA ATP written within the last two years, and must hold a current first class FAA medical certificate.
Candidates should address the following questions within a 500-word essay:
- Tell us about your aviation career goals and describe how winning this B737 type rating will help you achieve them?
- Please include where you see yourself in 10 years
- List any aviation-related activities with which you are involved
- List something unique to American Airlines and describe what impact this has had on you.
Checklist
- Application. Be sure to fully complete the application form and submit it on/before August 1, 2017.
Please include all of the following attachments in PDF with your completed application:
- Narrative (500 word essay): Tell us about your aviation career goals and describe how winning this B737 type rating will help you achieve them? Please include where you see yourself in 10 years. List any aviation-related activities with which you are involved. List something unique to American Airlines and describe what impact this has had on you.
- Two Letters of Recommendation: One coming from a faculty member or boss and another from a flight instructor/chief pilot or pilot whom you have flown with. (i.e., this recommendation should inform the selection committee about your qualifications for this scholarship).
- Copy of your Pilot Certificate
- Copy of your Medical certificate
- Copy of the last two pages of your pilot logbook: showing your total flight hours.

This scholarship is intended for individuals seeking advancement in professional aviation development towards a career as a professional airline pilot. Funds will be used to advance flight training and will be paid directly to the institution or flight school. Training must be completed within one year. The recipient will be chosen on a basis of merit, career aspirations, and dedication, as well as contributions to their community and service with NGPA.
