PART 1: GENERAL INFORMATION

2017 Alaska Airlines/NGPA B737 Type Rating Scholarship Application

Requirements, Eligibility, and Application Procedure

  • The NGPA provides scholarships to aspiring aviators with the desire to develop professional aviation skills and ratings who have demonstrated community involvement, including support of the lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, and transgender (LGBT) community. 
  • Have or meet ATP minimum requirements.
  • Have a BA college degree.
  • Be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Have a valid US Passport.
  • Have a valid FAA 1st Class Medical.
  • Have appropriate current or recent employment and/or experience to transition to an airline entry position.
  • Complete the attached application.
  • Answer the three essay questions.
  • Attach a one page resume.

Please include all of the following attachments with your completed application:

  • Academic Transcript: a copy of your most recent transcripts (high school and/or college). A GED must be accompanied by previous high school transcripts, or subsequent college records.
  • Letter of Recommendation: addressed to the NGPA/Alaska in support of your application for this scholarship (i.e., this recommendation should inform the selection committee about your qualifications for this scholarship). 
  • Copy of your pilot certificate
  • Copy of your medical certificate
  • Copy of the last two pages of your pilot logbook: showing your total flight hours.
  • Copy of your pilot certificate written test scores: if available.

Selection Process:

-Alaska may specify additional requirements in addition to NGPA’s minimum requirements

-One of the following:

            a. Have an Alaska Airlines representative participate in the selection committee along with NGPA’s selection committee.

            b. Be provided finalists selected by the NGPA selection committee for a final decision to be made by Alaska Airlines.

Upon successful completion of the B737 type rating and only when Alaska is actively hiring, an opportunity to interview for a pilot position. 

The type rating scholarship application window will start late spring or early summer, concluding no later than August 1, 2017.
